The Institute for Educational Equity and Opportunity will provide a 1-year fellowship for a 2009 law school graduate to work with a public interest educational equity project or attorney of their choice in the areas of educational equity and opportunity. This Fellowship will be in the amount of $60,000 dollars for salary plus additional funds for benefits. A similar Summer Associate Award is available for a 2nd year law student in the amount of $1,000 per week for 12 weeks. Applications must be postmarked in accordance with the deadlines below.
Applicants will have:
• taken a course in Education Law or be currently enrolled in Education Law;
• be recommended by her/his Education Law Professor.
In addition to the above, applicants will submit:
• a proposal detailing a project to be worked on with a public interest organization or attorney which will enhance educational opportunities for disadvantaged students, particularly through legal means;
• the Fellowship Application; official Law School Transcript;
• Commitment Letter from project sponsor/attorney;
•Resume.
Project proposals should be attached on separate sheets. Applicants are responsible for securing a potential position with a sponsoring attorney/organization before submitting an application for a Fellowship. Sponsoring attorney/organization must prepare a Commitment Letter for submission to the Institute with Application. The letter must contain a brief description of the organization’s or attorney’s practice, structure, history and education law goals and activities, a brief description of the project on which the applicant will be assigned, and a commitment to employ the applicant in that position on a full-time basis, for a period of one year.
Fellowship completed applications must be postmarked by January 31st, 2009. Finalists will be notified mid-February, 2009. Interviews will be scheduled mid-February. Final selection will be by February 27, 2009.
